Британец создаёт скульптуры из покрышек
Художник Птолемей Эрлингтон собирает автомобильные колпаки и покрышки на дорогах Великобритании, чтобы затем сделать из них удивительные скульптуры животных. Семь лет назад после окончания художественного колледжа Эрлингтон стал собирать колпаки, слетающие с машин на резком повороте ближайшей трассы, с целью их повторного использования. Из первого крупного «урожая» колпаков появилась огромная рыба.
Первые поделки скульптор создавал ради собственного удовольствия или в качестве подарков друзьям, но вскоре на него посыпались заказы. Сейчас мужчина пользуется популярностью как в родном Брэдфорде, так и за его пределами. Тем не менее, скромняга Эрлингтон долгое время отказывался от участия в выставках, а плату берёт только за время, потраченное на создание скульптуры. Самым дорогим его произведением стал дракон высотой 10 м, он обошёлся заказчикам в 3 000 фунтов.
Птолемей Эрлингтон является сторонником повторного использования и переработки отходов, поэтому никогда не использует в создании скульптур новые материалы. Даже проволоку для соединения частей скульптур между собой он находит на свалках. Среди материалов для скульптур животных можно обнаружить также детали старых тележек из супермаркетов и телефонные провода.
