Невнимательность человека к окружающей среде обычно выглядит непривлекательно. Уникальное исключение имеет место в Форт Брэгг, штат Калифорния, США.
Место, о котором идет речь, называется Glass Beach – «Стеклянный пляж». Сто лет тому назад, в первой половине XX веке, здесь была банальная свалка – вроде тех, что, увы, имеют место и на пляжах полуострова Крым. В 1960-е годы свалку закрыли, а мусор не убрали – «предоставили самому себе».
Казалось бы, время должно было сделать кучу отходов еще менее привлекательной. Но случилось наоборот. Прибой отшлифовал осколки и кусочки пластика, ветер придал этим скоплениям правильную форму. Свалка стала удивительным пляжем с гладким стеклом вместо гальки.
В 1980-х феномен «Стеклянного пляжа» стал достоянием общественности. В Форт Брэгг потянулись туристы, а предприимчивые местные умельцы стали делать из «псевдо-гальки» сувениры на продажу.
О чем говорит этот уникальный случай? О том, что природа способна справиться даже с пренебрежением человека в свой адрес. Увы, но не всегда ей удается победить в неравной схватке с человечеством с таким же изяществом.
