Есть на свете справедливость: судя по всему, тонны пластика, смываемые в Мировой океан, окольными путями попадают в пищевую цепочку и в конечном итоге оказываются у нас на тарелках.
Одна незадача: никто не гарантирует, что есть рыбу с пластиком будут именно те, кто загрязняет окружающую среду. Потому что природа-мать неразборчиво мстит человечеству в целом.
Авторы вышедшего недавно научного исследования утверждают, что у подавляющего большинства морских птиц в желудках содержатся частицы пластика — они глотают плавающие отходы, путая их с рыбой. И что к 2050 году пожиранием пластика из Мирового океана будет заниматься 99 процентов птиц.
В своем интеллектуальном развитии птицы мало отличаются от рыб — и те, и другие глотают все, что им кажется похожим на корм. А поскольку в развивающихся странах городская инфраструктура не поспевает за ростом среднего класса, в окружающей среде оказывается все больше пластиковой упаковки, которую смывает в реки, откуда она попадает в Мировой океан.
По разным оценкам, каждый год в Мировой океан человечество сбрасывает, желая того или нет, от пяти до 12 миллионов тонн пластика — вдобавок к тем 100-150 миллионам тонн, которые там уже плавают. По оценкам экспертов, пройдет еще несколько лет, и на каждые три килограмма рыбы в Мировом океане будет приходиться килограмм пластика.
Вопрос: куда все это девается?
Как ни печально, большую часть пластика съедают обитатели Мирового океана. А через какое-то время этот пластик оказывается на вершине пищевой цепочки — на наших тарелках.
Чтобы проверить «устойчивость» рыбы к пластику, поставили соответствующие эксперименты. В рамках одного из них подопытных рыб разделили на три группы и посадили на три разных диеты. Первых кормили привычным кормом. Вторых — смесью, состоящей на 90 процентов из рыбного корма и на десять процентов — из чистого пластика. И, наконец, третьим сыпали в аквариум привычный корм с добавлением пластика, собранного в заливе Сан-Диего в том же соотношении (девять к одному).
Спустя два месяца рыб вскрыли, чтобы проанализировать, что пластик делает с их организмом. Как и можно было предполагать, вредные вещества из загрязненного пластика передаются в организм, причем те рыбы, которых кормили пластиком из залива Сан-Диего, имели самые четко выраженные патологические изменения в пищеварительной системе. В этом нет ничего удивительного — ибо известно, что дрейфующий в океане пластик впитывает в себя тяжелые металлы и прочую дрянь.
В рамках другого эксперимента американские ученые исследовали рыб, купленных на рынках в Калифорнии и в Индонезии. И те, и другие содержали в кишечнике частицы пластика.
Вскрытие показало, что в организмах более половины рыб содержатся частицы мусора, произведенного человеком. В одной из рыб ученые обнаружили 21 частицу пластика. В «индонезийских» рыбах пластика оказалось больше, чем в «американских» — авторы исследования предполагают, что это из-за того, что в США лучше организованы сбор и переработка бытового мусора.
Рыба опасна?
Аналогичное исследование провели ученые университета Гавайев — в организмах семи из десяти вскрытых рыб содержались частицы пластика.
Чем крупнее и жирнее рыба, тем больше вредных веществ в ее организме. Поэтому, например, в тунце, содержится больше всего ртути и других вредных веществ. Этот факт не внушает радости покупателям — в США, например, консервированный тунец занимает второе место по популярности среди потребителей рыбы и морепродуктов.
По словам ученых, частицы пластика в Мировом океане как «губка» впитывают в себя химикаты — и переносят их в организм рыб, вступая в химическую реакцию с желудочным соком. У рыб, поевших «грязного» пластика, чаще развиваются опухоли и проблемы с печенью.
Теперь логичный вопрос: что все это значит для нас? Значит ли, например, что выловленный в Средиземном море тунец может содержать остатки пластика, выброшенного, скажем, в Африке и впитавшего в себя тяжелые металлы с какой-нибудь китайской фабрики по переработке выброшенных компьютеров?
Ученые успокаивают: вроде бы рыбу можно спокойно употреблять в пищу (без кишечника). Хотя и не исключено, что вредные вещества могут оказаться и в ее мясе. Но, наверное, в микроскопической концентрации.
Как бы там ни было: судя по всему, пластик присутствует в нашей пищевой цепочке. И мы, сами об этом не догадываясь, съедаем какую-то часть выброшенного по всему миру мусора.
